A Christchurch Furniture Designer with a Difference
If you like your furniture just the way you want it, then you can get it custom designed with Paul Harding-Browne, a local Christchurch furniture designer. According to Paul, many of his clients simply can’t find the right piece of furniture to fit within their home, or they decide they’d like to give an old piece of furniture a second life with a restoration.
Some of the more unusual requests Paul has received include making a toy rotary lawnmower, a pounamu jewellery box for a Japanese diplomat, a bench seat made from an oak dresser, a coffee table from a piano, and a romantic two-seater spiral deckchair. Paul loves the individuality of each project, using mostly natural timber and solid construction techniques.
Paul grew up in a family that didn’t watch television. “We were always busy building something and my father’s reply to ‘can we buy it’ was always “let’s see if we can make it first.” Thanks to his father’s encouragement, Paul began making simple projects and then it developed into making cots, tables, bedroom furniture and bookshelves, wall units for family and friends. Based on the positive feedback he was receiving from friends and family he started selling his furniture and created the No Boundaries Furniture brand.
A recent development has seen Paul’s work move into a more artistic direction.
